Tuberose absolute from Grasse
Originally from Mexico, tuberose was introduced to the fields of Grasse in the 16th century. It is a demanding, capricious and precious plant that extracts a lot of energy from the soil and whose bulbs must be protected from freezing in winter. The flowering period is short in summer and the flowers are harvested at sunset, when their fragrance is at its most intense. Each flower is placed individually by hand in a frame lined with vegetable fat so that it can absorb the fragrance - a craft that dates back to ancient times. After this process disappeared from Grasse in the 1970s, it was reintroduced in the early 2000s to revive this tradition.
